Accurate Inventory and Immediate Visibility Are a Priority for Morrison Products

KINNELON, N.J. -- (BusinessWire) – Two years ago, Morrison Products, Inc. chose Eagle Consulting & Development’s online, real-time automated data collection and bar coding solution, RF ExpressTM for QAD Enterprise Applications. In those two years, inventory levels have dropped 14 percent.

Morrison Products has four plants across the US manufacturing fans and blowers for the HVAC industry. To maximize production capacities, production managers require accurate and immediate inventory visibility, says Anne Holmes, ERP Coordinator for the Cleveland-based company. Prior to the implementation of RF Express for QAD Enterprise Applications, inventory and finished goods data was written by hand and entered after the shift, creating as much as a 24-hour lag between production and inventory update.

“With online, real-time finished goods reporting, the system automatically updates raw material and component inventory levels, enabling managers to spot shortages and order components from another plant before a crisis arises,” Holmes explains. Today, production and shipping are far more accurate as bar code scanning allows for item number verification from the plant floor. In addition, forktruck operators use long-range scanners, which minimize the number of times they have to get off the vehicles – decreasing injuries and increasing accuracy.

Such win-win scenarios are good for both employees and the company:  Employees have greater control, and reduced inventory levels free up cash. “When inventory levels are high, money is tied up. It isn’t earning any returns, nor can it be used elsewhere in the company,” Holmes says, “and that just isn’t good business practice.”
