Eagle
and QAD Collaborate on Web-Based Kanban Visibility
KINNELON,
N.J. —
(Private Distribution) — March
17, 2003 —
Over the last several months, Eagle and QAD have
collaborated on the development of an important addition to our
customers’ supply chain capabilities.
Immediately following the Midwest User Group meeting, Eagle and QAD
will offer this new capability to beta customers, enabling those customers
to implement Eagle’s new product (known as EAGLEx™), in conjunction
with QAD’s Supply Visualization tools and QAD’s private, hosted
exchange known as MFGx.net. The
result: Those organizations
will gain immediate and significant competitive advantage as they become
the first to let their customers know – in real time -- where a given
product is as it moves through the manufacturing process.
Begin with Web-Based Inventory
Visibility
QAD customers already have the ability to provide their suppliers with
web-based inventory visibility. All
a supplier needs is a web browser to take advantage of this capability
through MFGx.net. Once
an authorized supplier enters the firewall friendly MFGx.net environment,
QAD's Supply Visualization tools provide direct, real-time visibility into
the inventories of the manufacturers they supply.
Add Kanban Visibility
The value of Kanban methodology proved itself long ago inside
the factory. Now it’s
possible to extend the value of this signaling process outside the factory
to supply chain partners. QAD
has added Kanban Visualization (KV), including remote Kanban signaling and
printing, to the existing Supply Visualization toolset.
Meanwhile Eagle’s new product, EAGLEx, handles the hardware and
the interface to MFGx.net.
Signal Your Customers in Real
Time
In a nutshell, here’s how it works… A supplier can inform his
customer that he has acknowledged / received a Kanban.
The supplier scans the Kanban and ships the product.
The manufacturer in turn scans the Kanban and receives the product,
completing the cycle. The scans that the supplier
performs are immediately visible to the customer - sent by EAGLEx to
MFGx.net.
An EAGLEx for MFGx.net appliance
residing at each authorized supplier's site provides the link between the
scanning hardware and MFGx.net. Eagle
will supply the web-enabled software as well as fixed and wireless
scanning devices that will provide connectivity to QAD's MFGx.net. From
that portal, the information will be available for review in a web browser
by the supplier’s customers. In addition, barcode label printers can be
used to generate Kanbans
Result:
Competitive Advantage
In addition to gaining improved visibility, the supplier's personnel
can use Eagle's RF terminals to perform an update to MFGx.net with a single scan.
This technology provides quick, accurate input with minimal operator
effort.
